LAKEWOOD
Monday was an outstanding weather-for-golf day and the golf scores reflected the great breeze, moderate temperature and low humidity. This year the member players were small in numbers at this unique and challenging course.
Our Super Senior Frank Allain came in with a respectable 90 for the eighteen holes.
Results are available on the "RESULT" page.
Go to the nearest the PIN awards on the "RESULT" page you will see some fine shooting considering the pin placements and that ugly 4th waterhole. There are many Central Maine golfer's miss-shots lying in at the bottom of the 4th's wishing well. "I wish I had kept my head down."
Thanks and kudos go to the Lakewood crew for the welcome and the volunteers for the fine lunch set up.
An open comment. Take heed of the USGA rules. The rules are there for all to enjoy a level playing field for all levels of play and it is the RIGHT THING TO DO, point out rule infractions and corrections to the rule infractions of all players observed not in the "fair game zone." Example...losing a ball anywhere whether it be in the woods or in the rough.....DO NOT DROP A BALL where it went in but go back to the spot closest to where you hit the last shot, count the stroke that was lost, another for taking the ball back and another when you hit the ball again. Exception if ball crosses a hazard line, ball may be drop at the spot where the ball crossed the hazard line provided certain contingencies are met. READ UP AND KNOW THE BASIC RULES.
When did "preferred lie" mean or better yet, allow a person to set up their ball in the rough, worse yet in a hazard? Where would the challenge of the game of golf enter when difficulties of the game are removed by "cheaters?" Keeping the ball in play is a challenge that we all face and when we have a great round within the rules of the game we can look back with deep satisfaction and say, "wow, what a great round...I hope to do that well next time." Finally, how many of us have called a penalty on ourselves? Try it, believe me, it will fill good.

only sure rule in golf is - he who has the fastest cart never has
to play the bad lie..
